In 2014 the most popular New Year’s resolution was losing weight, according to the Journal of Clinical Psychology from the University of Scranton.
The Journal also states that only eight percent of those people actually lost any weight.
Some of the most popular weight loss programs were Weight Watchers and the Myfitnesspal mobile app.
Weight Watchers is a weight loss program where you keep track of your daily meals by using ‘PlusPoints.’
You are given a limit of pluspoints, which you are not to exceed by the end of the day to meet your weight loss goal.
The program is customized to the user’s height, weight, and age in order to lose weight more efficiently.
There are no prohibited meals so you still have the freedom of visiting your local In-N-Out restaurant, to a certain extent.
You are also provided many delicious and healthy recipes to fulfill your hunger, as well as cravings.
Subscribers are granted access to 24/7 virtual coaches, as well as attending in-person meetings with other users.
These meetings are designed to help offer moral support to those participating in the program.
Subscriber Jennifer Hudson lost 80 pounds within four years. “My experience with Weight Watchers has truly been life changing. I am grateful for what I have learned throughout the process and will always take it with me,” said Hudson.
Angela Marinilli Pinto, an assistant professor of psychology at Baruch College at the City University of New York, did a study that showed a group of people using Weight Watchers lost more weight than a group of people on a hospital-based weight loss program.
The HMR Diet is another weight-loss plan like Weight Watchers. It is a 12 week long program.
For the first four weeks, you follow a strict meal plan that is shipped to your home.
For the following eight weeks, you are occasionally given meals while being able to eat your own choice of healthy foods.
Exercise is also strongly encouraged, however it is not heavily enforced.
Technology took a huge role in fitness these past couple of years.
There are so many apps available now that help users try to lose weight.
Myfitnesspal mobile app is a commonly used dietary and fitness journal, and the best thing of all is that it is absolutely free.
If you are constantly trying to keep track of all of your eating habits, this app makes all of that much more convenient.
A really nice feature of the app is the bar code scanner; so if your snack has a bar code, you can scan it with your phone and it is automatically logged in your daily food journal.
You input what is your desired weight goal by a certain date, and the app gives you nutritional guidance and it keeps track of all of your daily exercises.
Lisa Esposito, from Health.USNews.com, states that the HMR Diet is three-times more effective than meal replacement plans and traditional diets.
Although weight management is something that almost everyone has a problem with, having the encouragement and support of people that are in the same situation makes all of the difference.
