With the latest buzz from “Interstellar”, “Jupiter Ascending” proves to present a more aesthetically-pleasing film.
Andy and Lana Wachowski,as the “Wachowski’s”, directed the film.
With the Wachowski’s later films, such as, “Cloud Atlas, and “The Matrix” trilogies, “Jupiter Ascending” has not proven to receive the same ratings their past films have received.
“Jupiter Ascending” is currently standing with a rating of 6.0/10 while”The Matrix” had a rating of 8.7/10, and “Cloud Atlas” was rated at 7.5/10, according IMDb.
IMDb describes the film as, “In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by the ruthless son of a powerful family who lives on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically-engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign.”
While the bright nature of cinematography brings out the special effects in the film and gives a more aesthetically pleasing experience than “Interstellar”, the plot of “Jupiter Ascending” fell short.
“Interstellar” brings risk-taking, and survival of the fittest into a new context, while “Jupiter Ascending” would almost bring those themes within the film into a state of mockery.
“Jupiter Ascending” starts with some back story about the protagonist, such as where she is from and how her parents met.
Mila Kunis plays the protagonist Jupiter Jones, who is narrating the introduction in which she states, “I was born with Jupiter in the house of Leo, which my aunt says, it means I’m destined for great things.”
This gives a disclaimer for those that have knowledge of astrology by showing that Jupiter rising in Leo, would mean that there is great change for those that as part of their astrological signature.
Despite giving hints to how the film would play out, the ultimate problem with the film are the plot twists.
Jones, who was once a person trying to get by with her mom by scrubbing toilets, has now found out she is the person that owns Earth, and is a part of a family that owns most of the universe and now has to be protected by a half-human, half-wolf man named Caine, played by Channing Tatum, from her galactic-ally rich family.
Jones, completely astonished by what is going on, while also trying to save her own life from being murdered, now falls in love with Caine, and is not afraid of what this might mean for her.
Other actors, such as Sean Bean, and Eddie Redmayne, are also in the film, although they also do not provide great acting skills as their later works.
Ultimately, “Jupiter Ascending” brings a more visually-pleasing experience than the later space fantasy films, but the film lacks intelligence, and executing plot twists in a manner that would not make the film seem trivial.
