CSUSB Spring 2011 Commencement

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – It’s their time for recognition after years of dedication, diligence and study. More than 3,000 Cal State San Bernardino students will be eligible to graduate when the university hosts five separate commencement ceremonies this weekend, June 18-19.

As part of the graduation exercises, highly respected attorney, community activist and philanthropist Bruce D. Varner will be presented an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the College of Business and Public Administration commencement at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 18.

This year’s candidates, many of whom are first-generation college students, include undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those who have completed the university’s teaching credential program. Delivering the commencement address for CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus graduation will be Chauncey Veatch, who was the 2002 National Teacher of the Year in 2002.

The commencements will then shift to Coussoulis Arena at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, June 18. The university’s College of Business and Public Administration will honor its graduates at 9 a.m., followed by the College of Natural Sciences ceremony at 1 p.m. The College of Arts and Letters will close out the day with its commencement ceremony at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, June 19, the College of Education will hold its graduation exercises at 9 a.m., followed by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at 1 p.m.

The first of the graduation ceremonies was held Thursday, June 17, when Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus honored students at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage. Along with the Palm Desert Campus, four of the five colleges will honor their outstanding graduate and undergraduates during their commencement ceremonies.

Palm Desert Campus

* Outstanding graduate student – Tina Wilcox, Yucca Valley, master’s degree – education: reading and language arts.
* Outstanding undergraduate student – Rebecca Scull, Indio, bachelor’s degree – nursing.

College of Business and Public Administration

* Outstanding graduate student: Celia Paulsen, Yucca Valley, master’s degree – information assurance and security management.
* Outstanding undergraduate student: Johnson Chen, Walnut, bachelor’s degree – information assurance and security management.

College of Natural Sciences

* Outstanding graduate student: Anthony De La Loza, Fontana, master’s degree – computer science.
* Outstanding undergraduate student: Krystina Bradford, San Bernardino, bachelor’s degree – biology.

College of Arts and Letters

* Outstanding graduate student: Gina Hanson, San Bernardino, master’s degree – English and master of fine arts in English.
* Outstanding undergraduate student: Anna Delgado of Grand Terrace, bachelor’s degree – studio art.
* Outstanding undergraduate student liberal arts: Sara Franklin of Ontario, bachelor’s degree – liberal studies.

College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

* Outstanding graduate student: Michael Ryan Chavez, Colton, master’s degree – social work.
* Outstanding undergraduate student: Sandra Carbajal, San Bernardino, bachelor’s degree – biological psychology.

All of the ceremonies at Cal State San Bernardino’s Coussoulis Arena will be webcast live on the ACM website.
