On Wednesday, Feb. 18 a report of an unattended backpack resulted in the evacuation of University Hall and the involvement of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Bomb Disposal Unit.

The owner of the backpack returned to retrieve the bag a few hours after the incident was reported.

The backpack and its contents were being analyzed by the Bomb Disposal Unit when the owner arrived on scene, according to Joe Gutierrez, Public Affairs Assistant Director.

The initial report was made at 7:42 p.m. Some students reported not being evacuated until 9 p.m.
The evacuation was lifted by 9:45 p.m., according to the Press Enterprise.

No campus alert was made during or immediately following the event.

Students were notified of the incident the following afternoon through emails sent by the department of University Advancement and the department of Administration and Finance.

Attempts to contact Campus Police went unanswered.
