Coyote sports season comes to an end

The 2014-2015 year of sports has come to a close for CSUSB as the seasons for all of the teams have ended.

The end of the season often results in the end of many collegiate careers for the student-athletes.

The baseball team leads the others with a total of 13 departing seniors, five more than the next.

The men’s basketball team follows with eight.

The softball team has four seniors, while the golf and track team have three apiece.

The women’s basketball team has just one senior.

Men’s and women’s soccer begins again in the fall quarter to restart the CSUSB sports program.

Women’s volleyball and cross country also resumes in the fall.

Men’s golf begins the fall portion of their season as well.

The cheer and dance team resumes with the volleyball and basketball teams.

We must first say goodbye to the other teams, before we welcome in the new.

Women’s track and field began their inaugural season in late February and wrapped it up in early May with a trip to the championship.

  • Track and Field Stats:

Team made its’ CSUSB debut.

Placed second in the 4 x 800 relay in their first official meet.

Sophomore Cynthia Rivera took best time in 3,000 meter-steeplechase in their third and fourth meet.

Junior Evelyn De La Luz placed fourth at California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship, becomes first Coyote to place in the championship.

  • Women’s Basketball Stats:

The women’s basketball team started in mid-November and ended in early March after a playoff run.

Ended the season with a record of 19 wins and nine losses.

Had 14 wins and eight losses in conference play.

Finished fifth out of 12 in the CCAA standings.

Played in two CCAA Tournament games, beating UC San Diego, but falling to CSU Dominguez Hills in overtime.

Juniors Alexcia Mack, Chelsea Barnes, Brianna Harden, and Adriana Brodie named All-CCAA.

  • Softball Stats:

The softball team started their season in early February and finished the last weekend in April.

Final record of 28 wins and 24 losses.

Had a record of 20 wins and 15 losses in CCAA conference play.

Finished 5th out of 10 in the CCAA standings.

Seniors Nicole Nobbe and Victoria Lievanos, and Sophomore Cassandra Williams named All-CCAA.

  • Men’s Basketball Stats:

The men’s basketball team began playing in mid-November and played through early March, also making a playoff appearance.

Completed the season with a record of 12 wins and 14 losses.

Had 12 wins and 10 losses in conference play.

Finished 6th out of 12 in the CCAA standings.

Played in the CCAA Tournament, falling to Humboldt State University.

Senior Isaiah Morton, junior Jacob Thomas, and sophomore Everrett Turner named All-CCAA.

  • Golf Stats:

The golf team started their spring season at the end of February and are just wrapping up. They played in the CCAA Championship and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Super Regional.

Coyotes finished sixth at the Coyote Classic to start the season.

CSUSB finished 5th at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational.

Finished 6th overall in the CCAA Championship.

The team received invitation to play in the NCAA Division II West/Central Super Regional.

Finished 9th out of 20 in the Super Regional.

  • Baseball Stats:

Baseball began in early February and wrapped up their season in early May.

Coyotes opened the season with a night game, thanks to an upgrade in park lighting.

Season high 14 hits against Sonoma State University.

Finished with a record of 10 wins and 39 losses.

Had eight wins and 32 losses in CCAA conference play.
