Celebrities have become such an obsession for people because we want to live the lavish life of the rich and famous.
Celebrity life has become so in demand that there are networks dedicated to them, like E! and Bravo.
The infamous show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” is about to premiere it’s eleventh season and has been on air since 2007 on E! and is known for the family that everyone loves to hate.
The Kardashian women have become the celebrity royalty, but not just on reality TV.
They have three clothing stores, called DASH located in LA, NY, and Miami, clothing lines, hair and makeup lines, kids clothing and their new, individually owned website and apps. They are smart, business oriented women and make a lot of money off their fans who just want to keep up with the Kardashians.
I think that many people have become obsessed with the Kardashians because of their lifestyle and different personalities. We see their style and want to imitate them, since they have so many different business ventures, we buy into it.
They have now gained the privilege of knowing people will buy their products simply because of who they are.
According to yourbusiness.com Ad Age reports that studies show some companies increase sales by up to 20 percent once they use a celebrity to endorse their product.
Although many argue that the Kardashians became famous for nothing, they didn’t. The Kardashians started to become known when their now deceased father, Robert Kardashian, was an attorney who defended OJ Simpson in his infamous murder trial according to Mirror.
For some people, liking a celebrity isn’t enough; they want to be them and will go to extreme ends to do so. They will get expensive surgeries to imitate them.
A man named Toby Sheldon spent $100,000 on surgeries to try to look like Justin Bieber, according to LA Times.
Claire Leeson spent $30,000 on “breast implants, hair extensions, spray tans, makeup and clothing to emulate the 33-year-old star [Kim Kardashian],” according to huffingtonpost.com.
Also, according to mirror.com, a UK entertainment news website, a man named Jordan James Parke spent $100,000 to try and imitate Kim’s look.
I think that people have these surgeries because of their own insecurities and how they see society react to how beautiful these stars are they hope for the same reaction.
What makes their lives so interesting? I think that it’s because of the Hollywood glam persona that has made us believe that people in Hollywood are mysterious and glamorous. We want to have glamour in our lives because it is perceived to be a better life than what most of us have.
The truth is people look up and want to be like celebrities because they see their lavish lifestyles, their perfect wardrobes, and ultimately, believe they have a perfect life. These lavish lifestyles mean that these celebrities are rich and are able to spend their money on more than necessities, which most, if not all, strive to do.
“Eighty-seven percent (87%) of Americans feel the media pays too much attention to celebrities,” according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. But “84% of Adults also admit that Americans pay too much attention to celebrity news and not enough attention to news that has real impact on their lives.”
Aside from entertainment news shows like “E! News,” “Extra,” and “Access Hollywood,” there are many different blogs like perezhilton.com and theshaderoom.com. There are also tabloid magazines like Star, Us Weekly, and OK! magazine that make us believe that they are reporting truthful celebrity news, but usually it is fabricated or exaggerated.
“I believe a lot of people are involved in celebrity culture and lifestyle because of how much we look up to them. The way celebrities dress and how they act a lot of us today use them as role models that we look up to for fashion and the way we can our lives to be,” said student Daniel Gonzalez.
I believe that celebrity obsessions are taken too far, especially when you begin altering your body image to look like your favorite celebrity.
Most of us can’t afford the lifestyle that celebrities live and that’s okay. We should look at them to push us to do better not put us down because we can’t have what they have.
People need to work on their own insecurities and allow celebrities to inspire them, not strive to be them.
