Updated: Carjacking suspect sought by University Police fled campus investigation continues

Update 2/28/17 11 p.m. According to an email sent by the UPD the suspect has been identified as Deandre Hemphill and is wanted for multiple felonies. If he is spotted dial 911.

“Hemphill is not affiliated with CSUSB and is 24 years old, described as a Black male adult, 5’7, black hair, brown eyes, 180 pounds.” stated UPD in a campus wide email.

The UPD urges anyone that witnessed the crime and/or has any information that may aid their investigation to contact Detective Herrington, University Police Department at (909) 537-5165 and refer to case number 17-0157.

UPDATE 2/28/17 2:30 p.m. According to the UPD the carjacking suspect has fled the campus. The campus will remain open and normal activities will resume.

The University Police are searching for a carjacking and kidnapping suspect near University Village. According to the UPD the suspect “possibly carjacked the victim’s car around 11 a.m. [Tuesday].”

According to the UPD the suspect is described as “an African-American male, early 20’s, wearing a gray shirt, approximately 6 feet tall weighting 170 pounds.”

According to the UPD “[the] Victim is a student and is currently safe and with UPD. No weapons were used in the incident.”

According to an email sent by the UPD the suspect returned to the area around University Village and police are searching the area. The UPD stated via a text to all students, faculty and staff “Students in housing should shelter in place until receiving an all clear.”
