Banning abortion is a war on women

May 22, 2019 by Ashley Balmaceda 208 Comments

The controversy stirred as news broke that Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi and Alabama all signed abortion bans. These bills got signed at the hands of the GOP, and their goal is to eventually overturn Roe v. Wade, and with the Supreme Court majority being conservative, this is a real fear many women are facing. Five of the six states signed the “heartbeat bill” which means abortion is no longer allowed once a heartbeat is found. That could be as early as six weeks. That is usually the time a woman realizes she’s pregnant in the first place. Essentially, this bill forces women to carry out the pregnancy. Alabama leads the way with the 25 men voting in favor of the … [Read more...] about Banning abortion is a war on women

October 22, 2018 by Lorina Lemos 471 Comments

Proposition 6 gains wide support as Californians seeks a gas tax repeal. Prop 6 is a proposition making headway in the 2018 midterm elections. The proposition, if passed, will effectively remove the gas tax legislation that was signed into action by Gov. Jerry Brown of California on April 12, 2017. On Nov. 1st, the gas tax increased gas prices by 12 cents to the gallon. This has come as a shock to many Californians who are already seeing increased prices for other everyday items such as food, gas (home utility) and electricity. However, those hit the hardest by the gas tax have been commuters. California is abundant with commuters, including those that travel a far distance to … [Read more...] about Gas tax repeal lands on ballot

San Bernardino Mayoral Candidates Take Questions

October 15, 2018 by Scott Romo 2 Comments

Mayor Davis responded to the public's questions with his current plans of action which are already in place, while Valdivia promised that he would fix the city's problems faster and more effectively than Davis has. The running theme of Valdivia's answers was that the city is in need of real leadership, which he can provide. He said that the council he sits on is the one that makes all of the tough decisions. Davis responded to this with a list of controversial votes which Valdivia abstained from in City Hall, stating that he does not have the ability to make the tough decisions he claims to. "We have some serious issues when it comes to leadership," said Charlie Pagan, a … [Read more...] about San Bernardino Mayoral Candidates Take Questions

Implement Strict Regulations

January 24, 2018 by Kaelie Sigrid Illman 199 Comments

Guns are a disease that has quickly taken over our nation. The call for stricter gun control laws has been increasing over the past several years throughout the U.S. The argument that guns are either weapons of death or a natural right for American citizens to bear arms under the Second Amendment, has been tossed around and then forgotten. The discussions seem to falter in the aftermath of any shooting to allow time for mourning, but if we made decisions these tragedies could cease to happen. In 2017 alone, 307 mass shootings (defined as the killing of three or more people) have occurred in the U.S. in less than 310 days. Almost 14,000 have been killed and over 28,000 have been injured … [Read more...] about Implement Strict Regulations

ICE under investigation after raids

January 24, 2018 by Kimberly Ayon 25 Comments

A federal investigation is underway after seven ICE agents administrated a raid sweep at a local 7/11 convenience store in efforts to ask management and employees for legal work and citizenship documentation. Within 20 minutes of one of the sweeps, ICE asked management to provide documentation, citizenship and green cards of all the employees working at the location. This is not the first raid ICE has done. They have committed over 100 ICE sweeps in over 17 states. The ICE agents are currently under federal investigation to figure out why the search was done. Officials believe that this is another tactic President Trump is using in order to enhance mass deportation in the United … [Read more...] about ICE under investigation after raids

The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that deals with greenhouse gas emission reductions, adaptation and finance towards climate healthy changes starting in the year 2020. The decision to withdraw from the agreement was largely due to the notion that the carbon reduction targets set by the previous administration were severely hurting the economic climate and job forecasts. Fallout after Trump fires FBI director

May 22, 2017 by Daniel Urenda 2 Comments

By Daniel Urenda |Staff Writer| CSUSB professor comments on James Comey’s dismissal by President Donald Trump—a controversial decision, despite the fact that the FBI director had been facing considerable criticism from both liberals and conservatives beforehand. Comey’s dismissal happened via a letter written by Trump on Tuesday, May 9. According to the letter, Comey’s dismissal was due to the Department of Justice’s judgment that he was not effectively leading the FBI. According to a statement from the White House, Comey’s termination was due to recommendations from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
